Welcome to the Niagara Hindu Samaj!

The Niagara Hindu Samaj is a federally registered Canadian charity. The objective of the Samaj is to serve the Niagara community through services geared towards creating an awareness and understanding of the Hindu and Jain faiths.

Since its inception in the early eighties, the Samaj has served the Niagara community in various ways. The Samaj manages the Shiv Mandir (Temple) in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The Shiv Mandir provides devotional and other services to its visitors.

The Niagara Hindu Samaj is proud to announce that the Ontario Trillium Foundation has awarded the Samaj a 3-year grant to support programming in heritage and wellness activities at the Shiv Mandir.

Supported programs include yoga and Indian classical dancing classes. The Samaj is committed to contributing to the well-being of Ontarians, especially those living in Niagara.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, receives $100 million annually from Ontario’s charity casino initiative.

NHS Ambassador 2008

Vrushank is equally passionate about his Indian heritage. He is proud to represent the Samaj.

Throughout the days of the Folk Arts Festival, Vrushank caried out his responsibilities as the Samaj’s Ambassador with enormous enthusiasm and lots of confidence! He helped out at the Samaj’s stall at the Food Fair at Montebello Park in St. Catharines, and also performed voluntary duties at the Park for the Folk Arts Centre. His warm and friendly disposition made him well-liked at all the Open Houses and other festival events that he attended.

Vrushank reports that he thoroughly enjoyed representing the Niagara Hindu Samaj and the rich and ancient culture and traditions of India. He found the whole experience to be immensely rewarding and fulfilling. His advice to other youngsters of Indian ancestry is: “Be proud of who you are. You have a tremendous heritage- make sure you always cherish it!” Vrushank was honoured by the Niagara Folk Arts festival by being selected as the 2nd Runner-Up for the title of Folk Arts “Ambassador of the Year”. Congratulations, Vrushank! You have made us all very proud!
